About
Tim
Verstegen
Tim is a Netherlands-based composer specializing in original scores for film, television & games and was nominated for a Buma Award in 2025.
With roots in percussion, Tim has a deep understanding of rhythm and timbre, and a unique approach to sound. Tim adds something truly innovative to each story, such as a newly developed virtual instrument based on his vibraphone covered with aluminum foil. With access to more then hundred instruments that he can play and manipulate, Tim is the creative partner and multi-instrumentalist to elevate your narrative to the next level.
Tim collaborates with Triumph Audio, a Los Angeles-based sample library company. By contributing to their latest releases and developing virtual instruments in his own studio, he offers a unique and tailored approach to every project.
His latest credits include the original score for the NTR Uur van de Wolf documentary Blieve Loepe and Milou’s Strijd Gaat Door, the most-watched documentary on Dutch television in 2025 and the Dutch submission for the International Emmy Awards 2026. In 2026, he was commissioned to compose the soundtrack for the opening show of the World Music Contest. As part of René Merkelbach’s Audiocult.nl team, he contributes to projects for Efteling and large-scale immersive film productions, including Cleopatra (premiered in Madrid, 2025) and La Leyenda del Titanic. Both productions received multiple accolades, including Telly Awards for music and sound design.
Tim earned his Master of Fine Arts in Professional Media & Game Composition from the University of Chichester in England in the summer of 2024 and was nominated for the Buma Talent Award 2025. He was also selected as one of the few participants for the London Sync Mission, organized by Buma Music in Motion, where he visited major industry players such as the BBC and SKY TV. The jury in London praised his work, stating: “Let’s go with him—he sounds ready for the next level.”
In the spring of 2026, he attended the Composer Summit Prague, where he received personal mentorship from renowned Hollywood composers including Christopher Lennertz, Jesper Kyd, and Chris Egan.
As a freelance percussionist, Tim performs with major orchestras such as the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he works as a session musician for various composers.
Tim also works as a conductor and has led orchestras such as the Brașov Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Sinfonietta during international masterclasses.
With a deep-rooted sense of rhythm, innovation, and a unique sonic approach, I create immersive scores with custom-built virtual instruments, crafted specifically for your project, to elevate your story to the next level.
“Tim is a great composer that sees music through the lens of emotion. He hits the right tone every time and writes music that moves, builds and highlights the project he scores. His scores are modern and current yet timeless in their execution and tone. ”
